Sprinkles are a Girl's Best Friend - Oct, 2006

Comments from mom … I’m not sure how Julia’s interest in cooking started. I do remember the day her cooking spark showed up. Julia was two and she wasn’ t feeling well so we bundled up on the couch. While flipping through TV channels, Julia had me stop on The Food Network. We ended up watching for a couple of hours until she had a nap. After that day, when she had any TV time she would ask to “watch cooking.” We got exposed to The Food Network chefs and shows and fell in love. It is happy TV.

Recently, while watching The Food Network, there was an advertisement for a cooking school. Julia said she wanted to go there to learn to cook. Since she’s too young, I asked her about having cooking school at. BINGO – that worked for her! We started our home cooking school we call Julia’s Test Kitchen. We collect recipes from family, friends and Cook’s Illustrated and “test” them. I found a couple of web sites that have videos of recipes so we can be instructed as we cook.

We’ll share the recipes on this web site, the taste test, and hope to get feedback or suggestions and even recipes from you. Our “cooking” is not glamorous and we learn something new each week. Enjoy what we post and if you try something, please comment on the recipe on this web site. You can also email comments or recipes to julia@juliastestkitchen.com.

Bon Appetite,
Jennifer and Julia
